Our Focus
Promoting Girls’ Education
Access to education is a human right and a social justice issue. Societal practices that deny education to girls put them at a disadvantage for life. At the societal level, suppression of girls’ education profoundly limits community and national developmental potential by failing to develop and harness up to 50 percent of available human capital resource.
Educating young girls therefore fulfils a dual purpose by not only improving the lives of girls, but also ensuring that they are able to contribute to the social, economic and political development of their communities and nations.
Girls’ education was and still is discouraged in many parts of Nigeria. Education for the female child is often regarded as a waste of resources. Parents continue to believe that the female child will eventually end up as a housewife away from her parents and that investing in her education is an unnecessary drain on scarce family resource.
The resultant problems of lack of education for girls range from illiteracy and ignorance, to general social and economic hardships and poverty, and human trafficking, and early marriage.

The Bridge Education and Development Foundation’s
